Disruptive innovation (or not?) at Ben & Jerry’s

I can highly recommend registering for updates from the Strategy for Sustainability blog, run by Adam Werbach and the guys at Saatchi & Saatchi S (indeed, while you’re at it, check out Adam’s book and his fantastic “Birth of Blue” speech).

One story that really caught my eye in their latest email digest was one about Ben & Jerry’s and purported moves to create a “freeze-at-home” ice-cream – a rumour that sadly appears to have been scotched at birth by parent company, Unilever.

I really hope it is true because, if it is, it’d make for another fantastic example of a disruptive innovation inspired by designing for sustainability – a genius way of eliminating the need for refrigeration, and all the associated energy costs, right the way along the supply chain.
