Can CSR survive a recession? (Redux)

It’s now a year since I wrote my post on CR and the recession and, amazingly, it’s still getting more hits than any other post.

I’m not quite sure how to feel about that. On the one hand it’s great that people are interested in reading what I have to say. On the other, it’s a depressing sign that the PR-driven world of CR 1.0 stubbornly refuses to die.

You see, the only reason this question even gets asked is because so many people continue to think in terms of CR as peripheral philanthropy, rather than something that’s an integral part of corporate strategy and culture – the WAY you do business.

I’d rather hoped we’d moved on in our understanding, but sadly that doesn’t seem to be the case.
